In 2002, producer Scatta Burrell built the Coolie Dance riddim on an MPC2000 in a Yonkers living room. Its lean, punchy drums and bouncy synth bass, set at a consistent 120 BPM, would soon travel from Kingston to global charts.

Move Ya Body — Nina Sky

Just two years later, this Jamaican dancehall heartbeat broke into American pop. Nina Sky's 2004 track, 'Move Ya Body,' rode the Coolie Dance riddim all the way to No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100, proving its irresistible crossover appeal.

Culo — Pitbull

The same year, the Coolie Dance riddim powered another major American breakthrough: Pitbull’s debut single, 'Culo.' Scatta Burrell described the beat as having an "ethnic feel with a little Puerto Rican and hip hop element," perfect for its ascent to No. 32 on the Hot 100.

Jook Gal — Elephant Man
