I Love You — Snoh Aalegra
Sometimes a credit gives you a whole new way to hear a song. Snoh Aalegra's I Love You brings Nile Rodgers on guitar and Raphael Saadiq on bass into the same recording. We'll begin there, then make a separate visit to Chic. Two recordings, connected by a musician rather than a claim about sampling. Here's I Love You. The release coverage names Rodgers on guitar and Saadiq on bass. Follow the guitar first, then shift your attention to the bass underneath Aalegra's vocal. It is a simple listening exercise with real people behind it. The song accompanies the announcement of Legendary Love, scheduled for November 13. Hear I Love You by Snoh Aalegra.
Good Times — Chic
Now step into Good Times by Chic for a separate look at Rodgers's musical world. This isn't presented as a sample source for I Love You. The connection here is the guitarist. Let the new song and this earlier recording sit beside each other, and listen for how a guitar part works within a group rather than treating it as an isolated solo. Hear Good Times by Chic.
Two recordings, two settings for that closer listen. You can return to Aalegra, follow Rodgers further into Chic, or ask the DJ for a sourced route through Saadiq's work.
