From West Texas — Explosions In the Sky
“From West Texas” starts this journey in a specific soundtrack context: Apple Music lists the Explosions in the Sky track on Friday Night Lights (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack). Edward Davis identifies Peter Berg as the Friday Night Lights filmmaker directing The Mosquito Bowl. The next soundtrack also lists Explosions in the Sky, so the sequence moves from one Berg film context to another, without assuming the two tracks sound alike. Mosquito Bowl (Part 1) — Explosions In the Sky
Apple Music lists “Mosquito Bowl (Part 1)” by Explosions in the Sky on The Mosquito Bowl soundtrack. Edward Davis describes Peter Berg’s film as following four college football stars who enlist in the Marines after Pearl Harbor; later, they take part in the Mosquito Bowl while preparing for Okinawa. Davis says it would be the final football game for many of them. After “From West Texas,” this track brings the journey from Friday Night Lights to a wartime football story: two soundtrack contexts, without assuming the recordings sound alike.
